The 28th annual Milken Institute Global Conference convened from May 4 to May 7 at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, drawing over 5,000 participants from more than 80 countries. Under the theme “Toward a Flourishing Future,” the conference assembled a diverse array of leaders including CEOs, policymakers, philanthropists, scientists, and cultural figures, to engage in over 200 sessions addressing pressing global challenges and opportunities.
Navigating Economic Uncertainty
Economic concerns, particularly regarding the U.S. outlook amid President Trump's tariff policies, were central to discussions. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent defended the administration's approach, asserting that tariffs are designed to encourage domestic investment and job creation. However, many investors expressed apprehension, with some considering increased allocations to non-U.S. markets, notably Europe, due to more favorable economic conditions and lower asset valuations.
Embracing Innovation and Sustainability
Beyond economic debates, the conference spotlighted advancements in technology and sustainability. Sessions explored the transformative potential of artificial intelligence across industries, strategies for climate resilience, and innovations in healthcare delivery. Notably, discussions emphasized the role of philanthropy in driving social change and equity, with panels addressing women's physical and financial health.
